  • Merc 90 Problems

I've done nearly 50 hours use in my new merc 90 4stroke. I've been very happy with the performance runs well starts well etc. However i've noticed it smokes periodicaly after it's first long run when i restart the motor after a couple of hours rest. It seems to do that only once. I've checked the oil levels and i haven't been losing any oil at all. I've spoken to my mechanic he said that some four strokes do this and not to worry about it. Has anybody had this problem? i would appreciate some feedback..thanks

Any engine with a vertical crankshaft can have oil backflow into the cylinders when it is shut down. To eliminate this occurance simply tilt the engine up a little on shut down and that little cloud of smoke wo'nt be there when you next fire her off.

One other thing to monitor with your engine is...if it makes oil.

Check the oil level frequently, if the oil level is going UP...the engine most likely needs a new T-stat. <--common prob for Mercs and Yammies.
