  • How to replace prop shaft oil seal

I have a 2011 40 HP ELPT . I need to change out the prop shaft oil seal. If I remove the two bolts holding the bearing carrier assembly in, can I then remove the oil seal without pulling all the gears out of the gear case. If not, when I pull the shaft out, will the gears all fall out or will they stay on the shaft and be put back in easily?

It should come apart relatively easy. Just check for shims between the bearing spool and gear housing.

OK, just to be sure I understand. I can replace the prop shaft oil seal without taking out the entire shaft and gears. I have already replaced the water pump, water pump shaft oil seal and shift linkage oil shaft seal. They were easy, I just have never pulled/replaced the prop shaft seal. Too many gears in there for me. Thanks a lot for the help and advice. Don
