  • 15hp 4 stroke - fuel delivery issue

    Hi..I have a 2000 15 hp 4 stroke (2 cyl) outboard...
It runs fantastic...I have changed all fuel lines and filter and connectors.
when I pump the priming ball, fuel goes into the filter.
The moter starts great and idles fine.
It looks like it is using all the fuel from the filter, but not replenishing itself from the tank (unless I squeeze more in)
If I do not continue adding fuel, it runs dry and stalls.

Yes, the tank is vented and no, I see not bubbles at any fittings.

Is this a fuel pump issue? Something else?
    Thanks, Chew

Could be fuel pump, air leak in fuel hoses or connections, or a fuel restriction in hoses or filters.

      2000 15hp 4 stroke - fuel issue

Thanks...I have continued to work on this and it looks like it may be the fuel filter causing a restriction.
I removed the auto parts store, $2 see thru, bulk bin filter and it works fine now.
I do not know what the suction pressure for this particular fuel pump is supposed to be, but it can not be much or it may even be losing pressure to the point where it is not drawing from the tank and only from what is squished into the filter from the fuel line ball.

If anyone knows the proper pressure or filter that is needed for this unit it would be greatly appreciated.

Again, thank you for the reply and views.
