  • 25ELH prop nut torque

Mercury service manual does not go into any detail about prop nut torque and all it shows is a nut. I just purchased a new Mercury Black Max prop and its instructions say to install a locking tab and torque to 26 ft lbs.
I cannot fnd a tab or part number for one. The Mercury parts supplier says it does not have a locking tab. If so, 26 ft lbs does not seem right. Should be higher I would thnk. No other Mercury I have ever owned or worked on had a tab. If you just tighten the prop nut using a piece of wood to lock the prop it seems to squash the prop hub out. Does anyone have any input?

If has self locking nut then wouldn't need locking tab washer. 26 ft lbs of torque is correct torque.

I appreciate your response and will go with it. I guess I have been over tightening props for many years.
