When I started my motor the other day with the throttle slightly advanced and popped it back into neutral I lost all tension to the cables. Now the shifter will move forward or backward as if the cables are detached. I opened the control box removed the metal and plastic covers and have access to the cables and linkage. When I move the throttle back and forth the cable or linkage does not move. As far as I can see the cable and linkage ok. However, I cant see up to the part where the round black button (throttle advance release?) connects to the cable or linkage. Is there a quick fix to this problem or should I look into buying a new control for $250 and install it myself. Please advise and thanks in advance.

You should look into replacing the entire unit. It is a possibility to be an easy fix, however there are very few parts available for those units.Regards
