Motorguide Repair

I broke the lever handle on my 2006 Motorguide Trolling Motor 970100040. I already ordered the part from boats.com. Any advice as to how to get it off. I am either going to have to remove the head or the lower unit from the shaft to get the lever handle on. Just wondering if there was an easy way or any recommendations.

We don't service them here and not that familiar with them but most hand control models just have to remove top housing.
