Can someone help me with this serial number crisis I am having. I have a 1978 mercury 1115. There is a serial number punched into a metal plate on the transom mount that never produces results when I enter it in to parts search websites. The number is 5056127. Is this the correct number? Or am I doing something wrong?

A lot of the older motors wont come up in serial number search, just go to horsepower search and look for serial number range that matches your motor serial.- 115HP

Without a serial it will be difficult, Mercury has had 15 hp motors since the 70's. Post a picture of it on web to see if anyone can help.Regards
