Correct Prop ??

I have just purchased a 06, Merc 40 HP 4 stroke long shaft, for my pontoon boat, and looking at the recommendations for the propeller caught me by surprize. They recommend a 13" x 26 Pitch propeller !
Does anyone have any thoughts ?? I measured the distance form the output shaft to the bottom of the foot is about 6 7/8 inches !! That seems kind of tight !!
I would like some input or ideas if anyone has tackled this in the past. Especially before I purchase a prop.

the correct way to get a correct prop is to test it by using different prop pitch. any prop that can reach recommended max rpm at WOT is the correct one. anyway from my experience, that particular engine using 10P X 14" prop for pontoon boat. part no. is 48-854342CP1 (BlackMax Pontoon)or 48-854342A45 (Blackmax)
