Mercury 25hp need help!!!!

I just purchased a mid to late 80s mercury 25 hp and come to find out it had a bad lower unit but I need to find the serial number to buy parts. I can't find it anywhere can someone please help me out here???

If you do not see a tag on the swivel bracket..........pop the cowling off and look on the back of the cylinder block for a silver fake freeze plug There should be a # stamped on it

The number I found was stamped into the block and it was only 6 characters
