  • Damaged Skeg - problem?

    Hello
I have a damaged skeg on my 1999 15HP 2 stroke US built outboard.

    Please see pictures attached.

Am I in danger of anything going wrong? Is it dangerously close to exposing the gearbox? Does having a bit missing affect the performance? (It obviously exposes the prop somewhat to damage!)

    Your thoughts greatly appreciated.

There is a company called skeg guard that sell replacement skeg covers. You should be ok for use though.

no it is not to close, you will be fine.I broke a chunk off in the DELAWARE river all the way to the gearbox once, ran fine, you also can buy a replcement and have a welder attach it and repaint couple hundred$
