First time member seeking help. My outboard idles and runs fine up to 22000 rpm but it makes a long beep and runs real rough and won't go any higher in rpm if I give it more gas. I can run all day at idle or below 22000 rpm with no apparent issues. Any idea what might be going on with it? Any help would be kindly appreciated.

Well your motor is going into limp mode, you should take it to an authorized dealer and have a computer diagnostic completed.Regards

Thanks for the reply. Any hunch at all what might be causing it? Also, my voltage regulator wires are burnt but it's been that way for years and it ran fine. I don't think it has anything to do with it but I can't say for sure. I notice that the regulator is listed as obsolete. Does that mean it's not required for the motor to run properly? I kinda assumed that since it's run fine with it burnt.

They have probably updated the regulator requiring a kit, that should not be discontinued.Last edited by boats.net; 03-07-2012, 10:04 AM.Regards
