sounds like could be the clutch dog inguaging. It is hard to say. Be sure your idle is not set to high. Should be between 500-1000RPM.

we did take the powerhead off and took the selector rod out because it was so tight.Would it be that we didnt put it back in the right way,and not quite ingauging or over engaged?

There are two shafts to the shift shaft upper and lower. You should have only removed the upper. It could be possible its not adjusted correctly and not fulling inguaging the clutch dog to the gears.

The upper shaft was put back in the same possition and was fine beforehand. but it just wont engage it seems like.do i need to drop the bottom unit and line them both up together? just seems a bit weird, how it was fine before.Thanks.

Did you verify the RPM's? If the RPM is too high it will not engauge and will make sounds. If your RPM is correct then yes verify the shift rods.

Wen,the engine is running and put to forward or reverse,it goes into gear , sort of, but makes a knock knock, continously? also wen engine is dead and put into forward, wen i spin the prop clockwise,it makes a knocking noise as if its not quite engaged? but solid either way wen in reverse....... ? revs are fine too

It is normall when the engine is not running that the prob clicks one direction but solid the other in forward. reverse should be solid both.
