    I have a Merc 25 hp outboard motor..1992
    When I opened the cover I discovered a plastic piece laying on the bottom & have no idea what it is or where it came from...can anyone tell me what it does
    & where I can get this & where it goes?

    That appears to be the retainer clip that holds the shift shaft in pace

      ya if you have the cable att latch some one broke it and could't find it so they just put another one on.
