Default 94 60 hp mariner timing?

I have a 1994 mercury mariner 60 hp serial #0g0 . Replaced switch box it did not help,Put the old switch box back on and cleaned up the stator and now it runs but I think the timing has to be off because it will run backward in revolutions. I need to know how to check timing please.

Ok I do not understand what you mean in backwards revolutions. Unfortunately you would require the service manual for specifically how to check the timing.
