I am the original owner of a 1991 Searay with a Mercruiser 5.7 260 h.p. Alpha 1 Gen 2 Outdrive. Last summer I started having trouble with my power steering. The steering is difficult until the boat has been driven for about 5-10 minutes. It then seems Okay for the rest of the day. I am not loosing any fluid out of the pump reservoir nor are there any leaks. The next time I take the boat out the same thing happens again. 10 minutes of running and I'm good. Does this sound like the power steering pump? (maybe an internal seal has to warm up) Could it be the valve assembly or booster cylinder assembly mounted on the transom? (I think these two items are obsolete now) I am very mechanically inclined. I just want to try and buy the correct part. Any help would be appreciated!
