Default My Merc 240 ain't what it used to be.

I have a SeaDoo Islandia Jet Boat.

A while back the Throttle Position Sensor went bad on my Merc 240. At that time Merc was not providing that part. A local mechanic robbed a TPS off of an outboard 150 and cut the three wires on it and soldered my nylon wiring harness onto the top portion of the new TPS and basically built one for me. This fixed the symptom I was experiencing. The top part of the 150 TPS looks identical to the old one.

Since getting this new TPS I could swear the boat isn’t as powerful as it was before and it gets worse gas mileage. I don’t really have a way to test horsepower or MPG so I don’t know exactly.

Does anyone know if the electronics inside the different Merc throttle position sensors vary from model to model? There’s really no reason anyone should have to know this, but a TPS from a 150 is on my 240 and may be screwing with my performance. But before I drop the $300 on a new TPS and it possibly not changing anything, I’d like to see if anyone happened to know if I’m barking up the right tree.

Thanks!

I have never tried using an outboard TPS on a Mercruiser so I'm not sure if is same and how it would perform.
