I just acquired a 1974 Merc 402E (2 cylinder, 2 stroke) where the previous owner, in the attempt to remove the head, cracked it.

I am a newbie in locating older Mercury outboard parts, I have dealt mostly with Yamaha outboards to this point.

I have been scouring the internet but with no luck.

Any suggestions at all on where I might be able to locate a replacement head would be much appreciated.

thanks!

Just to clarify, I am not referring to the 'powerhead' of the unit, I am referring to the cylinder head cover that was cracked....

thanks

Thanks for the search, I appreciate it, I have had no luck either..

along those lines, I have also taken ownership of a Mercruiser 120 (1972?), that 'siezed' last summer.. thats as much as I know about it, not sure if the motor itself siezed or the outdrive, but do you have an opinion on the whether it is worth my time to try and rebuild this motor if parts are so hard to come by? any input appreciated

thanks

Jim

Parts should still be avail.

Best find out what the problem is before deciding to pursue it.

Check the fluids
