Alpha One Gen 2 Impeller

I am changing the impeller for what I believe is the first time on this lower unit (I bought it used). There was no Face Seal on top of the Pump Housing when I disassembled it. It is Mercruiser p/n 26-816575A2. Has this seal been eliminated? Or should one be on there?

What is the serial number for the lower unit?

I am uncertain what you are referring to as the face seal. The following link is a break down of your lower unit. If you are referring to a gasket or seal that goes above item 1. Then no there is no seal.

It is line item 25 and it goes on the drive shaft right above the impeller housing.

Thanks, that is the parts diagram I have been looking at. The Face Seal I refer to is line item 25 right above the impeller housing on the drive shaft. I guess it is supposed to be on there, but it was not on there when I disassembled it. I am pretty sure it came from the factory that way since there are less then 100 hours on it. That is what prompted my question.
