does the tilt kill switch need to be hooked up to fire the outboard motor or can it be unhooked i have a 1977 85 hp mercury thunderbolt outboard motor i have no spark to my plugs it acts like my coils are being grounded out if any help i would be greatful thank you larry

It should run with it disconnected.
