Thumbs down serial number help

I have a 150 black max out board and I know like to know where the serial number is at on the motor ? I have looked all over it and I found some numbers on the driver side by the head at the bottom the numbers are 8588346 then 0-3 and square with a 2 in it ? Is this the write number ? I want to know what year and if it's really a 150 the guy I got from said it was a 175 with a 150 hood on it ? Any help will be appreciated sorry for a long post thanks everyone

Some of the older models had the serial number on a welch plug in block but the newer ones don't have it on engine block no where.

Look at the posted picture and this will tell you the date produced. Also on the crankcase have right above the throttle arm bolt you should see a number stamped into flange ,this will be the horsepower but not all blocks stamped. Also there should be a welch plug on top of block with serial number. Also the model/series number of carb can tell horsepower...
2= 200
7= 175
5= 150
3= 135

Post the date code (example: 09-27-89) and can get you the series carb #'s it should have.
