Default Running in reverse for two years

I have recently found out that I have been running a cr outbopard for two years in reverse - by using a standard prop. Guy who I bought outboard from rigged it up and it seemed to run fine. Had it serviced this year and found out it was a CR outboard - "L" on the prop shaft. Some say the gear case won't last -others say these outboards have bearings and other parts that allow them to run in reverse. I f I decide to put a left handed prop on - how do I get the control box to make reverse mean forward and vice versa. Lot's of CR props on Ebay - I would like to know how it will run with it set up the way it should. When I ran it in reverse I had it going 47mph and hauled skiers and tube - very light boat. Any comments and directions are welcome

You are a lucky man, most people who have done this blew the lower.
You should be able to just use the other entrance (opposite) of where your shift cable is attached now.

The net can sure help with problems like this - turns out there is a mercury service bulletin out that tells you that commander 2000 controls will not work with CR outboards - N0 96-14 is the bulletin. We are changing the controls and the prop to counterrotation- will update later.
