Default Outdrive new to me..questions

Have had several boats in the past few years..but all had I/O's.

Just purchased a 1994 Rabola 1820 with Mercury Blackmax 150 outboard, A georgeous little center console boat..in real nice shape..engine purrs like a kitten, but I don't think the previous owner ever touched it. Told me he changed the plugs back in 2005 or 2006. Only used it 4 or 5 times a year.

At any rate...I'm gona give her a tuneup...and replace the Impeller pump..

My question is...what is a Safe RMP to run this puppy at...Im used to never exceeding 3500-4000 rpm on all the old I/O's. The little owners manual says Full throttle RPM is 5000 to 5600.

I have never run any engine at those RPM speeds. I know this is a different animal designed for higher RPM..but ***.

What is a good safe RPM number to use for extended 20 minute run ?

Is it safe to run this thing at 5000 RPM ?

5600 rpm's is better for it than lugging it at say 2000 rpm's. It's a 2 stroke engine built by Mercury, it likes it fast.
