I'm a first time user of this site too. And I also have a Mercury outboard, two stroke, circa 1988 with the serial number OB223714, and have no idea how to find out the model number having lost the book.

Specifically, the issue w the motor is NO SPARK at the plugs. I've been told I need a "sparker unit" (which I have no idea...a coil perhaps or a distributer?) replaced. So, I need the model number and maybe another term for "sparker unit"...........help! Thanks. df

The ignition consist of Stator, Switch box and Ignition coils, not sure what they are referring to as Sparker unit maybe the Switch box.
