I have a 1972 50 hp. I need a crankshaft and have found a used one from a 1983 that my mechanic says should work[ he worked for mercury for 25 years] does anyone know if it will work? I know the part #s are different.

IF the part numbers are different..so is the part.

The older style crank used a different flywheel along with its ignition...crank is different too.
