Default Merc 97/225EFI

I had a problem with acceleration. The pressure at the vapor seperator was 42(supposed to be 36-38) everyone I talked to even the traveling Merc Tech said that wasn't a problem as the regulator NEVER goes bad.The local tech said that and the guys at Shorts in De.Said they never go bad.
Well I changed it and it was bad!!
Now when I accellerate it works but it takes a while to wind up.When it's going It will hit 5500 rpm and runs good.Just real slow on the take off?
Comp is good, good spark. Both pumps new. The small filter in the hose connection on the regulator is clear.Fuel system, new filters and clean.
Any ideas?? Thanks,Jerry

The local guy like you,was no help.He kept my boat for 2 months and couldn't help. Why on earth should I go back to him.He tried and didn't do anything.
I 'll fix it myself like I did before,J
