Default cylinder cover replacement

I'm trying to sell a 1982 40 hp that needs the cylinder cover replaced (broken starter motor mounts). I have the replacement cover but, I'm not sure what to tell the potential buyer how involved a procedure it would be. Does anyone know how far of a tear-down is required? Can this be done without re- moving the lower cowling? Pistons, etc.? Also, is there a part number for the fix Mercury came-up with to prevent side tork on the starter motor? Thanks for any help.

You would have to remove engine, you shouldn't have to remove crankshaft or piston's the crankcase separates at crankshaft.
