Default Created big problem replacing lower end.

have 92 40hp 4 cylinder merc. had to replace lowerend and while bolting it up i did not notice the shift linkage did not line up quit right. long story short i ended up busting off a stop tab on the crankcase cover. i will attach a picture. this left a hole in the crankcase cover. so a couple of questions
1. will JB weld hold this good enough to run the motor safely?
2. the motor runs (albeit rougher) with the hole but will that cause it to lean out and burn up?

as you can see in the picture it is right below where the bottom carb bolts in.

Don't know if JB Weld would be able to hold it or not, might try it otherwise might have to check with a welding shop to see if they can weld it back in place.
