Question Can bad stator fry rectifier?

Have 84 60hp 3cyl Mercury. Tested the rectifier per manual. It fails test.
Tested stator at Red & Blue wires. According to manual readings are to be taken at R x 1000 with analog meter. Neither wire should show continuity.
I have a digital meter. Set meter at 200 and Blue wire shows no cont. the Red wire at same setting shows 149.9
At setting of 2k the Blue shows no cont. The Red shows .149
It appears that the stator is failing the test also. My question is if I replace the rectifier, will the stator fry it again?
I am not getting any fire to any plug.
