Default 96 Merc 60 hp Hydraulic Trim takes in air

Had same problem last July and the motor would trim down but not up- fluid foamy. So we went up and down with the motor, slowly replacing most of the fluid. Then it trimmed up and down fine. But this Spring same thing, it won't trim up. I'm convinced it's taking in air somehow, even though it sits outside all winter, in the semi-up position on its transom saver. Are there certain rubber washers/ O rings that I should be replacing to insure no air leakage at the bypass screw and the filler cap screw?

Perplexed,
Conteco.

You would see an oil leak if had an air leak. You need to fill it with oil then turn the manual release screw and allow motor to go down under it's own weight then lift motor back up by hand and recheck fluid. Repeat about 3 times to bleed air out, running trim motor just turns air in system to foam.

Smile Hydraulic trim air

Thanks, I'll try that. But I think I'm for sure going to carefully reinspect the rubber O rings on the Bypass screw and filler cap.
