Default 8hp mercury module stator

I have a 1989 8hp mercury and am not getting fire to one of the cylinders. I have swapped the wire from coil to coil and the fire moves to the other cylinder. I was wanting to know how I can check the module and stator (if that is correct) and/or is it hard to remove the flywheel if I want to check the parts under it? I work on small engines and have a decent set of tools. I took the boat out one day just fine the next day it sputtered a few times then died and would restart, then it just quit. model number is oc256823

You would need a peak reading volt meter or a multi meter with a DVA adapter to test output voltage of stator, trigger coil and switch box, along with service manual to test ignition components. If you have a service manual you can check resistance of trigger and stator but may tell if component is ok.
