Default 60 HP EFI Cold Starting

I have a 2006 60 HP EFI 4 stroke I bought new in 2007. The only thing I don't like is that when I do the first cold start of the day the engine will not idle and will die several times unless I run it up to 2500 rpm for about 5 minutes. After that it is fine for the day. I asked my dealer about this and he said it was "normal." To me that sounds like a load of hoowy. I wouldn't think a fuel injected motor should do that.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Rick

With Fuel injection that is not normal, What is your serial number?

My motor info is filed on my houseboat 90 miles away. It is still under a 5 year warranty. I need to bring the boat home this spring. I might try taking it to a Merc dealer near my home (not the dealer I bought it from).

That would be a good idea, let us know how it works out.

I will bring the motor paperwork home next week and post the serial number here. I am guessing you were going to look for a recall or bulletin for it?

Thanks for the assistance.

Yes that was our intention, however we were able to search that year all models for any related service bulletin and nothing came up with that issue.
