My dad just got a 82 40hp mercury handed down from his dad. We found that the magnets under the flywheel came apart and ruined the stator does this sound correct? If so where can i get the right parts if i am wording this correctly?

If the magnets aren't destroyed, they can be glued back on. You have to keep them in the same direction that they came off so the south and north poles face each other. Sometimes you have to make spacers to keep them from sticking to each other until the epoxy glue sets...bits of fuel line work well. Unless the stator is obviously destroyed, try it first. It might have survived the ordeal. They frequently do. You might try looking for a used flywheel if you can't fix the old one, but you can get a new one thru a Merc dealer. Stator too.
