2000 merc 40 hp starting
have a problem. new battery,starter does not seem to be getting the power it needs to turn motor, which is free. actually seems to be turning in the disengage direction if that makes any sense.any ideas

Make sure battery cables are not hooked up backwards. Could be starter dragging or a wiring problem, check cables.
