I have a pair of questions for the Mercury engine experts here.

1) I recently purchased a Merc 25XE motor. (25 HP, electric start). I'd love to learn more about it or even find a manual, but I can't find the 25XE model listed anywhere. I believe it's from the mid 1980s. The serial number is A162179. to complicate matters, when I check mercury lists, that serial number doesn't fit neatly into any of the published year-by-year lists.

2) I want to convert the engine from tiller operation to a remote shift/accelerator. One mechanic said they don't make a conversion kit for this model. A second mechanic said that I should be able to use the Attachment Kit Remote control #42805A6. And a third recommended conversion kit 89528401 (or maybe 02).

Confusing!

That serial number comes as a motor made in Belgium(check serial plate to see where it's made). Here is link to parts
