Default 1987 75 Mariner help

Hi everyone. I need help with a repair. My boat has been setting and when I went to take it out I had no power. The engine would start ok. Looking at it yesterday I found the white/black wire coming from the trigger was fried. Does the trigger go bad and short or am I looking at a bad switch box taking out the trigger? Any help or past experiences would be helpful. Thanks

If there is voltage getting back to trigger then it will short it out. Need to check stator, switch box and all ground wire connections.
