Default 1972 Mercury outboard 115hp / 1150

Need some help or suggestions.

I got a 1990 glasstron sc 170 sierra with a 115 merc hp on it.

So far we have pulled off the carbs, replaced wiring, cleaned up fuel pumps and replaced fuel lines. We are slowly working on cleaning and updating this engine.

Biggest problem now: We put the cowling on it dies we take off runs fine. Has a rough idle but when you got past about 1/2 inch sport on the throttle it flies. As long as the cowling is off. Put the cowling on and it dies out and stalls.

We ran a vac check on the fuel lines but seems to be doing good.

We assume it must be some sort of exhaust leak, but can't be sure.

Any suggestions?

, Todd
